Upper blepharoplasty focuses on excess skin in the upper eyelid area
02.
A brow lift focuses on the position of the eyebrows
03.
Both procedures affect the appearance of the eye area but target different structures
Both brow lift and upper blepharoplasty are surgical procedures that people undergo to address concerns bothering them, but it is important to remember that they are different surgeries.
Changes in the upper face, particularly around the eyes, are often among the most noticeable signs of facial ageing. Over time, shifts in skin elasticity, soft tissue, and brow position can alter how open, rested, or heavy the eye area appears. In some cases, drooping of the upper eyelids may also obstruct one’s field of vision.

What Is Upper Blepharoplasty? (Upper Eyelid Surgery)
Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin from the upper eyelid space. It addresses the skin of the upper eyelid which extends from the lash line up to the brow bone. This procedure, therefore, can result in a more refreshed, open and youthful look.
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons’ (BAAPS) reported a 13% increase in the number of blepharoplasties (eyelid surgeries) between 2023 and 2024. People may choose to book this procedure for a variety of reasons, for example they feel their eyelids are causing an aged look or a tired appearance.
The procedure is sometimes referred to as “upper eyelid surgery” and “upper eyelid reduction”, or shortened to “upper bleph”.
Mr Sirhan Alvi, a board certified surgeon, is able to perform this procedure in CQC regulated facilities under local anaesthetic. This means people typically return home the same day as the procedure.
What Is Brow Lift?
As for brow lift surgery, it addresses drooping of the brow area. In general discussions, brow lifts are described as procedures intended to reposition the brow area. This can in turn give the upper face a more youthful appearance too.
With age, the eyebrows may gradually descend (droop), which can influence how open the eye area appears. If a person feels that their brows are lower than they would like, they may constantly raise their eyebrows which can cause fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead.
Between 2023 and 2024, BAAPS reported a 20% increase for brow lifts.
Upper Eye Area & Upper Face Anatomy
- Upper eyelid extends from the upper eyelid margin at the lash line to the eyelid crease and to the inferior border of the eyebrow
- Eyebrow is a curved band of hairs embedded in specialised skin overlying the supraorbital rim
- Brow bone, or brow ridge, bone, is the bony arch above the eye sockets forming part of the skull.

Comparison Table: Upper Blepharoplasty vs Brow Lift?
| Upper Blepharoplasty | Brow Lift | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Surgical removal of excess skin from the upper eyelid | Surgical repositioning of brows |
| Target area | Upper eyelid | Brow area |
| Potential benefit | More refreshed and youthful look | More youthful appearance to upper face |
| Popularity increase (2023-2024) | 13% increase reported by BAAPS | 20% increase reported by BAAPS |
