Can Botox lift hooded eyes?
- Hale, Greater Manchester
Botox can help lift mildly hooded eyes, but the results are temporary. It works by relaxing specific muscles – particularly the muscles that pull the brow downward. When these muscles relax, the opposing muscles can create a slight lift which makes the eye appear more open.
According to a research paper, effects of botulinum toxin take up to 2 days to appear and last up to 3-4 months.
However, Botox does not remove excess eyelid skin.
In some cases, where there are more severe hooded eyes caused by excess upper eyelid skin, then an upper blepharoplasty could be more effective and longer-lasting. This is a facial surgical procedure where the excess skin is physically removed from the upper eyelids.
